I'm Still Alive!

Oh man, I almost feel weird posting here again. Life has been so crazy busy that this little blog of mine fell by the wayside.

Now I have something to share though! A finished piece I've been working on during breaks at work. I heard about a new painting technique that tries to mimic the different render passes that you get out of a program like Maya, and I wanted to give it a shot. After some trial and error, this is the result.

Hope you enjoy! And hope to see you again soon.

Character Paint - Aika

I've been working on this in my spare time, but I think I'm finally ready to just be done with it. I've already sketched out the next painting; hopefully that will go faster!

Just continuing on the painting!

Also, I updated the Storyboard and portfolio pages a few weeks ago, but never mentioned it in a blog post.

My next painting project! The re-imagination of the Witch's castle. Just a quick sketch with some tones thrown on. Refinement and further work tomorrow.

Daily Drawing

While I suppose I could leave it here, I'm still not quite finished with it. I don't know if I'll get back to it on Monday, since there's another scene I have in mind for next week, but we'll see.

If anyone's got some feedback on this, I'd love to hear it!

Daily Drawing Redraw

As I said yesterday, I was pretty unhappy with the drawing that I'd done, but it was late and I was getting too frustrated to keep working on it. SO! Today I sat down, figured out why I didn't like it, and did a redraw!

I also thought I'd dig up some old sketches of her.

The one on the left is from 2003. It's probably not the first drawing of her, but it's pretty close. The middle is from 2005, and on the right is one after my freshman year of college, three years later:

She's come a long way!

And now for something different! My very oldest character. She's from 1998, I believe (although she's gone through a great many changes in those 14 years). I just needed a break from all the TMGA stuff.

I'm not totally satisfied with this drawing, but it is way past my bedtime. I may see about fiddling with it more tomorrow.

I went to the Los Angeles Arboretum in Arcadia today. I did a few sketches, took bunches of pictures, and then did this photoshop sketch after coming home. Almost no reference: the duck was giving me trouble.

Girl in Moonlight

I drew this the other day. I'd been having a bit of a rough week. It came out pretty well though, so I have just started coloring it!

Here I've only juuuuust started to map out the areas of dark and highlight. Since I can only work on this in my free time, it'll probably take a while before it gets finished.

In other news~
HAPPY DAY~!!

I've been chosen as a semi-finalist for Nickelodeon's Artist Fellowship! There was much excitement and noodley-arm dancing to be had. :D

WIsh me luck!

Viking! Part Two

I meant to have this done yesterday, but so it goes!

Here is the small resolution version of my submission to the LMU Animation Club's How to Train Your Dragon competition! Full print size is about 11.5"x10.5"
