Oh man, I almost feel weird posting here again. Life has been so crazy busy that this little blog of mine fell by the wayside.
Now I have something to share though! A finished piece I've been working on during breaks at work. I heard about a new painting technique that tries to mimic the different render passes that you get out of a program like Maya, and I wanted to give it a shot. After some trial and error, this is the result.
Hope you enjoy! And hope to see you again soon.

Daily Drawing
Today was spent setting up my new work room! I've got my animation desk moved to its new location and prepped to start working on the film again on Monday. This week will all be sketches and drawings of TMGA characters as I get back into the swing of things. See you tomorrow!

TMGA: Year One
Coming June 2013! The Many Great Adventures: Year One!
Since I'm somehow not busy enough with class work and film work and portfolio work... I'm gonna be starting up a new project soon! I'll be posting snippets here and there while I get things going.

Happy Halloween!
Too busy to post yesterday, so here it is today! I'm still alive, just very busy with family and class. Still hoping to get back into the swing of the dailies soon. And now it's a new month, so keeping my fingers crossed!

Sunday Sketching
Hey folks!
I'm thinking of changing up my "daily drawing" type thing. While I'll still be drawing everyday, I'm going to change the format just a bit. Monday through Friday will still be regular dailies, although depending on the complexity, it might take two days or even the whole week to have something finished. Saturdays I'll be posting on The Many Great Adventures with progress on my film. And I think Sundays will be scans of sketches from my sketchbook!
So to start it off, here's some sketches from last night:

And of course... starting with Ellie and Celeste.

Daily Drawing
Alright! Now that the craziness of July is over, time to get back into the swing of dailies!
For my first daily drawing, here's an Ellie! I'm not changing her design to this for the film, although I kinda do love her giant hair.
I've got a new take on Celeste that *will* be showing up in the film for tomorrow.
Also, even though I disappeared for a while there, I didn't stop drawing! I've got a bunch of stuff to scan, and then there'll be a sketch dump from the rest of July.
Oh, and as always, feedback/critiques are welcome!

Daily Drawing TMGA
Hey folks!
I haven't died! Just been REALLY busy. One of the things keeping me from my dailies is actually working on my film again. I recently bought ToonBoom Animate 2 so I could keep working from home. Soon I'll have a full shot finished from scanning through compositing, and I'll throw that up here. In the mean time: screenshot!
One thing I miss sorely from Animate Pro is the node-based compositing system. Animate just uses linear/layer compositing, which can sometimes get a bit interesting...

Animation Test
This was today's work!
As the description of the video says, it was an experiment to try out a new workflow using Photoshop instead of ToonBoom Animate Pro. Well, after spending the better part of a day on just adding in the mum, I can say that I wish I had access to ToonBoom. There are lots of things that would be easier. Guess I'll just have to work something else out.

Sketch Dump!
I have been busy in my absence! I haven't been working from my laptop much, and rather have been sketching with good ol' pencil and paper.
First up, a sketch of Ellie and Celeste with M. Phoenix! These were drawn recently, but by referencing designs from over a year and a half ago! It's strange to think that at one point, the girls may have looked like this instead...
The other day one of my best friends came over to hang out. We ended up talking about a story she's working on, and I couldn't resist sketching out some of what we were talking about! Some of those sketches I gave to her for reference, which she later scanned and posted here: character sketches and some vis dev. (Her Tumblr link, by the way, is: http://hnilmik.tumblr.com/, where she posts her own doodles.) Anyway, after she left, I decided to do some more sketches!

Then another original character for a board that's in progress...
And finally... one of the reasons I've been awfully preoccupied the past few days... I was reading through all of Homestuck. ALL of it.
So yeah. That.

TMGA - Color Test
Before... and after!
A re-draw with colored lines, custom tones and highlights, and some other filter fun over it. What a difference a year and a half makes! What do you think?

Ellie
Hello there! Sorry for the long absence. The ending of school was a bit rough. I haven't stopped drawing or working though! There's lots of stuff ready to post... I just need to get myself to a scanner!
Anyway, here is a sketch I did today. I would love some feedback on how the lighting works. :D
